FDNY Rescue Companies are considered the most elite companies within special rescues, technical rescues, confined space rescues, and high angle the FDNY community. Its main responsibilities include search and rescue, rescues and SCUBA. Members are also trained as Hazardous Material Technicians.

Rescue Company 4 was created on June 1, 1931 and is stationed in Queens, NY.

Rescue Company 5 was organized on May 16,1948. Rescue 5 was disbanded on June 1, 1962 and then reorganized to its current operations on August 20,1984 Rescue 5 is stationed on Staten Island.
